Finally more findings

Some more thoughts having no direct space in the daily posts. One might think – ‘This is nothing special and new’, but it was remarkable (again) to me.

Street condition

In Germany we are perfect about complaining about the condition of our street infrastructure. But check out the US roads! Even interstates brings up the question – will our RV break? Will the interior crash? Will the tires, the chassis, the undercarriage survive?

Friendliness

It is amazing how open, friendly and talkative the people are you meet … everywhere. At the gas station, in a shop, in the supermarket, on the parking lot, in the national or state park, in the restaurant or bar. Result – you need more time in doing everything 😉

Walmart

It is a phenomenon – this chain of supermarket. Beside the fact you get (nearly) everything there – which is the purpose of a big supermarket, they are offering

  • Free overnight stay for RVs
  • (Mostly) clean restrooms (should not be underestimated)
  • Have sufficient trash bins
  • Offering a wide variety of non-food items (clothes, outdoor, …) at reasonable prices

Of course not everything is that ‘green’ as it sounds – but it helped a lot during these weeks.

Only Mobile

I can’t imagine, in the states it is possible: I talked to several people not having aesthetic home but travelling around and living in their RV or trailer. This implies of course the luxury version of mobile homes.

Not only big vehicles but also slide out and of course the car is towed while travelling.

Coffee

When stating ‘for 4 cups’ on the package – you should half the number. And always be careful about the added flavours in coffee and/or milk!

Locks at doors

In Germany, people constantly worry about security locks – especially on the front door – and these absolutely must be locked. That’s apparently not so important here.
